Alkalize Your Body
The body’s systems function optimally in a neutral to slightly alkaline environment. Most of the food in the standard American diet produces an acid “ash”, or post-digestion acid residue. This acid ash must be neutralized to keep our cells and organs in a healthy environment, and functioning properly. The most efficient way for the body to do this is to borrow alkaline minerals (calcium – the most alkalizing, magnesium, sodium, and potassium) from its reserves, which are mostly stored in the bones and vital organs. Over time this demineralizes and depletes the body, and poor health is the result. Most people’s minerals are already in low supply due to a mineral-deficient diet and poor absorption. An acidic diet will cause the body pH to become overly acidic as the body’s ability to neutralize and eliminate all this constant acid production is overwhelmed.
An overly acidic body pH is a contributing factor in most diseases because overall cellular health and organ function is impaired. An acidic environment is anaerobic, or low oxygen, and invites disease. The list of acid forming foods (to avoid) includes meat, cheese, eggs, most grains (even when eaten raw), most beans and legumes (even raw), and processed foods such as oils, vinegar, coffee, tea, alcohol, soft drinks, condiments, and refined sugar. Most nuts and nut butters are also acidifying, however, they are perfectly fine to eat in the relatively small quantities recommended on a mostly alkaline, low fat raw food diet.
The most effective way to alkalize your body is to eat a predominantly alkaline diet. The list of alkaline foods you can healthfully enjoy is very simple: nearly all fresh raw fruits and vegetables are alkaline forming foods! Even acidic fruits such as citrus, kiwi, and pineapple, leave an alkaline digestive ash. An alkaline body is a well oxygenated, energized body.
